Established in 1968 by the Government of India with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Chennai, Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), formerly known as the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), aimed to address the shortage of skilled manpower in the field of Plastics Engineering & Technology. Today, CIPET stands as a premier academic institution for higher and technical education, operating under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India. The CIPET: IPT Centre in the state of Uttar Pradesh was founded in Lucknow during 1986-87. Located in the "Amausi Industrial Area" near the airport, the center occupies an expansive area of 6.5 acres and boasts state-of-the-art infrastructural amenities. It is dedicated to various aspects of Plastics, including Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, Tooling & Mould Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Testing, and Quality Assurance apart from Academics, Skilling & Research.
